John “Jay” H. Cousins III has lived enough different lives to fill a bookshelf: All-American basketball player, economics and finance student, Dow Jones Award recipient, systems analyst, executive, consultant, writer, husband, and father of four.
Growing up in the suburbs of Pennsylvania, Jay’s earliest worldview was shaped by faith, family, sports, and the kind of confident certainty only youth can provide. But decades of studying religion, philosophy, and human behavior taught him something far more valuable: life opens up the moment we loosen our grip on being right.
Professionally, Jay built a long career helping organizations solve complex problems and see the bigger picture — a skill rooted not only in business but also in chess. He fell in love with the game at age seven, drawn not to competition but to the way it mirrors life: every decision shapes the future, perspective matters, and sometimes the best move is the one you didn’t see at first.
Today, Jay spends his time walking miles a day, devouring ideas, challenging assumptions, building his Cousins360 Perspective podcast, and — of course — sharing a steady stream of unsolicited advice with anyone who stands still long enough.
